In 1405, Changdeok
Palace (Historical
Site No. 122)
was an annexed
palace built after
Gyeongbok Palace
had been built.
However, the palace
had been used
as the same palace
as the main palace
since Sungjong,
the ninth king
of the Chosun
Dynasty because
many kings lived
there. Biwon,
the rear garden
of Changdeok Palace,
is renowned for
the garden representing
the Natural Beauty
of Korea since
the garden was
the resting place
at which the kings
of the Chosun
Dynasty and their
royal families
would enjoy elegant
and relish scenery
and there are
a good many ponds
and pavilions,
and dense forest
consisting of
old zelkova tree
of about one thousand
(1000) years,
and junipers,
and buildings
such as Buyongjeon,
Younghakdang,
Usoomun and Juhabru,
the prides of
beauty of Korean
traditional building
in harmony with
the garden.
